Wedding Confetti Photos

Capturing the Perfect Moment

A wedding confetti photo is one of the most joyful and exciting moments of the day. The energy, colour, and movement create incredible images that truly capture the celebration. While many couples opt for the traditional confetti tunnel, John Fox Wedding Photography finds that the best wedding confetti photos come from gathering all guests around the couple and having them throw confetti at the same time. This method creates a more immersive and dynamic image, completely surrounding the couple in a cloud of colour.

How to Get the Best Wedding Confetti Photos

Over the years, John Fox has refined the art of capturing wedding confetti photos to ensure they are full of life and impact. Timing is key—getting everyone ready and ensuring a well-coordinated throw means the confetti stays in the air longer, allowing for multiple shots to capture the perfect moment. Positioning is also important, with the couple framed to maximise the visual effect of the confetti shower. When walking through a crowd you can end up with the couple looking in opposite directions, guest not looking engaged in the background once they have thrown their confetti.

The examples above are showing the disadvantages of walking through the wedding guests throwing confetti. As you can see certain guests after throwing the confetti are disengaged from the moment and also brides and grooms are looking in different directions. Worse of all the lack of confetti as its being thrown a bit at a time from the guests the couple are adjacent to at the time.

Confetti Traditions from Around the World

The tradition of throwing confetti at weddings has a rich history across different cultures:

  • Italy – The word “confetti” originally referred to sugared almonds tossed at celebrations. Over time, this evolved into the paper confetti used today.
  • Asia – Rice has traditionally been thrown at weddings as a symbol of prosperity and fertility.
  • France – Dried lavender and flower petals are often used for a fragrant and eco-friendly confetti moment.
  • Greece – Wheat and grains are sometimes included in confetti tosses, representing abundance and good fortune.

As you can see below the concentration of confetti is greater as its all being thrown at the same time. The guests are all engaged in the moment and adding movement to the image. The couple are also more together and either looking at each other of squeezed up trying to avoid the confetti giving an all round better image and stunning moment.

The Best Confetti for Stunning Wedding Photos

For standout wedding confetti photos, larger confetti pieces such as biodegradable paper circles or dried flower petals work best. These stay in the air longer, allowing for dramatic mid-air shots. Finer confetti, like small paper pieces or rice, falls too quickly and can be harder to capture. Many venues now require biodegradable confetti, so flower petals, lavender, or hydrangea petals are excellent options that look beautiful in photos while being environmentally friendly.
